Here is the Holland Party's 2008 fishing report as I got it, enjoy.
2008 was a challenging year for the Holland group, we had to survive the two hottest days of the trip without beer! If you know this group you know how tough of a challenge this was. We successfully made it thru without dehydrating too badly. It seems like every year brings something new and like each year in the past we can never get enough and can’t wait to plan for our return trip next year.
Weather was very cold, cloudy and rainy for the first three days of the trip, and finally turned into extremely hot towards the end. The beginning of the week the winds were out of the North and we woke to 26 degree mornings for fishing. This seemed a bit cold for mid June even for NW Ontario. The big trophy fish were deep or in the river. Nothing showed up in the bays until the last day. There is nothing like a big Northern swirl attacking your bait when you are fishing the bays. Bryan and Scott both got to experience this the last day and both came up empty. Scott breaking the line as the fish darted under the boat and Bryan lost a trophy 40 plus after having a fight for a couple minutes and Simo unable to show off his netting skills.
Both the Northern pike and walleyes were up in average size this year again. This is the second consecutive year the average size of fish has increased indicating that catch and release is the way to go to get to trophy size fish. Walleye had the largest increase at about 6% from previous years with an increase of over an inch on average. For the week the average size walleye was 22.1 inches. This made it difficult to catch dinner since we had to throw most of our fish back.
Largest walleye was 27 inches, caught by Mike and Bryan, followed by a couple 26 inchers and a bunch of 25 inchers. The last night the group saw a huge Walleye floating on top of the water, which had to go at least 30 inches. “Mini Me Cappussi” aka Simo was able to surface the fish again but was unable to hook up. For the week Simo caught the largest number of big Walleye averaging 23.5 inches per fish. This year we had to invoke rule number 8 in the fishing contest which states: “If champion is a tie, settled with casting contest or rock paper sissors, best of seven in either event.” Simo and Bryan tied this year on big Walleye and since it was Ron’s birthday he chose for them to battle it out with a casting contest. Simo and Bryan traded the lead all the way to the seventh cast. In the end “Mini Cappussi rightly won the Champion Walleye contest. Way to go Simo.
Northerns were not in their normal haunts again this year, with main lake points and River out fishing the more accessible bays. This year Tim caught the largest Northern at 39 inches in the river. Although Scott caught one of his largest/fattest Northern in the 11 or so years he has been coming up he lost by half an inch. He caught his on a main lake point trolling a Rapala XRAP. The average size of the Northern increased again this year by 3% or by just under an inch per fish. Everyone in the group caught fish in the mid 30s or higher, although Jim waited until the last day to put is name in the books for the largest Northern caught for the day. Simo caught the largest average fish for the week with Ron close behind with a couple big fish as well. No casting contest required for the Champion.
Jim “Frenchie” French was the designated FNG this year, although he does have previous group/lake experience. He took the role very seriously, winning the catfish award (smallest numbers for the week) along with Bryan for 2008. Jim will maintain the FNG for next year by setting his hook so hard into the anchor rope that he busted a perfectly good ultralight rod. Luckily for him Scott had a spare rig that he entrusted to him for the remainder of the week.
Simo once again this year kicked everyone in the fishing contest taking half the money. This is growing old with the rest of us so we voted him off the island for next year. Sorry Simo but there will be some rule changes made to the contest moving forward.
Till next year.............

Great Weather today for getting ALOT of Flying done!!!
Today was a really busy day with 4 camps changing people. The weather was perfect. I was able to be ahead of schedule all day by 15 minutes. Everyone was happy and ready to go. Fishing was quite good everywhere and the weather was excellent all week. When you have that and add timely service, things go pretty well.
The Evans party came out of Vee today and reported that the fishing gets better each year. They had the best year yet for big Walleye. The Biggest measuring 25 inches. Nothing out of the ordinary, but most of the other fish they caught were all between 20 and 24 inches. The Northern fishing was good too. They caught a Monster 44 inch Northern. I hope to see those pictures soon.
The sky was a Crazy color this morning. This was at 4:45 am today.
This is my office chair. It is quite comfortable. Those cab drivers are not stupid... the beads help you stay cool:) With 1000 hp in front of you, it is bound to get hot.

More Smiles!! From Cherrington to Springpole
Two more groups of fishermen changed over today and there was smiles all around. The Shanks guys (and Girl) had an awesome time for their first flyin. Springpole lake was a perfect match for this 3 generation trip. Everyone caught more fish than they ever expected. Lots of Walleyes up to 25 inches and a number of Northerns in the upper 30's, even a few Lake Trout right in front of the camp!
Cherrington had some long time guests from Missouri who fish a different lake every year. They had great time on Cherrington. It would not matter which lake they fished, these friends would still have a good time. Here a are a few pics of their trip.
Shorelunch on the first day. I don't think there is a better meal on the planet!
Bill caught more than he bargained for while he was waiting for Tom to use the Restroom(bushes). This medium sized Northern was hungry.
Tom with one of hundreds of Walleyes he gave a sore Lip to.
Jim with a nice Northern
Bob havin a good time:)

New Youtube video
Here is a video of us leaving for Blackbirch at 4:30 am. I like to be a few minutes early if the weather is Good:)
Sure is nice to have good weather for flying.
Another weekend has passed by and the weather was great. A few showers around but good flying weather but on the busiest day, Sunday this week, the weather was fabulous. Sunny and light winds. I was able to go up to higher altitudes and take advantage of the more favourable winds and let my passengers see more of the beauty of the North.
Water levels are up but Morley's is the only dock that I have to back the Otter closer to shore to unload but just barely over the dock. Perfect water levels for this time of year as long as the rain slows down. Nice weather is here to stay...hopefully.
Fishing this past week was good, the Trophy Northerns were just Followers this past week. Not quite as many 40 plus inch fish caught this week but lots of them were seen! They were coming right up to the boat following peoples lures (or walleyes)and then just stopping, slowly disappearing down into the water. This made for some good stories if nothing else. One fisherman at Shearstone had Northerns attack his walleyes 5 times during his trip! Landing one of them with the walleye in his mouth.
And then there is always the story I hear all the time "I had a Monster right up to the boat but the guy on the net was a little slow!" This has caused more than a day or two of silence at the outposts over the years. But I always love to hear the the stories and laughter after the fact.
One thing to note, I am going to be more diligent on the anchors at the camps from now on. I will be looking to see that there is one anchor per boat at the beginning of the trip and then again at the end. We have had a few go missing and then the next group who shows up may not have an anchor if they choose to use it. If you lose one just let me know at the end of your trip and then you will have to pay for a new one.
Here are a just a few of the Trophies caught and released this week,
Jeanette Lake Arnie`s boys had the Biggest fish, a 45 inch Northern and 25 and 26 inch Walleye.
Vee Lake York Party One guy had a 43, 43.5, and a 44 inch Northern. He had caught the least amount of fish for the group. Poor guy.
Loree Lake Beer Party 27.5 inch Walleye
Cherrington Laska Party, they are still in there but I saw them the other day and had just caught a 40 inch Northern the previous evening.
There are too many 24 to 26 inch walleyes to mention this week and tons of upper 30`s on the Northern.
The pollen from the trees this year appears to look more white than the usual yellow. It has mostly washed away in the last few days.
