HOT!! Walleyes still in less then 10 feet of water!

We have been experiencing some SMOKING HOT weather this past week but it is supposed to end here pretty soon. It went over 100 yesterday but today is better with a strong wind, which helps. Alot of people sleeping out on the decks and screened gazebos I hear.

In talking to most of the people coming out I am finding out that there are still alot of Walleyes in 6 to 10 feet of water either in the cabbage weeds or just along the edges of the weed beds. Some are being caught in 20 feet now as well. With this heat, they should start to move out to the mid-lake structure and submerged reefs. Not alot of big northerns being caught but plenty in the 35-38" range. They are probably down in the cold water 25-35 feet. I caught a 34" Northern one time while I was trout fishing in 70' of water!

Some interesting notes of Late:

The Trewyn party went to Springpole July 16 to 20. Their first fly in ever. They were Very Happy when I picked them up. Fishing was excellent, the scenery was beautiful and they even took home 10 Gallons of Springpole water!!! They plan to make some pure Springpole Ale. I hope to be able to sample that one day.

Also the Twedt Party came out of Cobham today. The leader of the group Gary said fishing was a little slower than two years ago when he was up but it was still good fishing. The others who had never experienced The Cobham before were ecstatic. Fishing was phenomenal by their standards. Everything is relative but one thing for sure is that fishing is always good, just better sometimes.

Till next time.

You never know who you will run into on our docks.

Doug P. from Iowa booked a trip with us fairly last minute to Vee Lake. He travelled to Clear lake in Iowa the day before to cut down on some drive time the next day. When he got up there his neighbors on Clear Lake were up at their cabin going fishing in Canada the same day as Doug and his sons. As they talked, they come to find out that they were going to the same place, Amik Outposts. Dougs neighbors were going to Cherrington Lake with the Van Houweling Party. A group of ten. They even ended up being on the same Airplane. I Dropped Doug off at Vee first and then dropped the Cherrington guys off after. Everyone had good fishing and good times in both groups. Doug had never fished Vee before and commented on how easy it was to find the fish. The best depth was 7 to 9 feet for their walleyes. Still pretty shallow but that is where they were. Cherrington on the other hand had most of their fish in 12 to 17 feet.

That is not the only Random running into this week at Amik. Dave from the Novotny party got off the plane from their trip to Findlay and was walking up to the office to see Rena when up on the deck of our office was his Nephew Dan Pumper. He was heading out on the next trip to Cobham Morley. They had no idea that they fished the same place.

Here is a picture of the fish of the trip, Findlay Lake, Novotny Boys. They had quite a number of Walleye over 25". This one was a beaut at 29 1/2"er.

This Foster from The Novotny Group. 29 1/2" walleye. One of many Trophies they were able to do battle with on Findlay. Perfect Weather and just enough Beer made for good fishing and good times. These guys are a good bunch of young guys that go to a new lake every year. Of course they must be kept in line as they are chaperoned by a couple of the dads, Gene and Dave. Thanks for the pic Foster.

Summer is flying by. Weather and Fishing Excellent

Here is a picture of The Klees Girls and their Dad I wrote about last week. They had an awesome time. Dad had a 40" Northern and the Biggest Walleye was caught by the youngest Nicki, measuring a nice 24".

Here are some pictures from the S.A. Johnson party. Arnie comes up twice each season. Once with his boys and their friends to Shearstone in June and the other with some of his buddies to Jeanette in August. I will see him again next week

These are two beautiful trophy fish caught and released on their trip to Shearstone this past June. The Walleye is a huge 26" Walleye and the Northern is a nice 40"er. I just want to remind everyone about how to properly hold these trophies when they are out of the water. It should be a team effort. One with the rod and the other guys netting or landing by hand. REMEMBER to hold by the bottom jaw and also SUPPORT The belly. If you hold them up by the bottom jaw it is just like hanging them. They tend to be disoriented as would you if someone hung you by your bottom jaw.LOL The walleye pictured here is held okay because he is supporting her by the body in back of her head. Thanks for the pics Arnie.
