Vee Lake Catch and Release Specialists

Here is a picture from some comical guys who returned from Vee Lake today. Walleyes were caught right off the dock and here it shows that they were true catch and release specialists, putting them back in better shape than they found them.LOL

Art and Jim did catch some Dandy fish though. A 26 inch Walleye shown here and also had a Huge Northern up to the boat but since they fish without a net, they released him without even bringing him into the boat.

They also said that in one spot for 3 hours it was non-stop fish after fish after fish.... At one point Art put 2 rods into the water and 2 times he had walleyes on each. Technically this is illegal to fish with more than one line but in this case he was not even able to keep up. His words were "what do I do" and Jim replied, "fish with only one"

We just took some people who travelled all the way from New York, I hope they do well. They should with the advice given to them by yours truly and mostly Art. A well marked map and even some extra jigs and tails from Art and Jim. This is the second time this week that I have seen departing fishermen giving tackle to the in-going ones. It is truly nice to see that people who had such a great time sharing information and doing their part to ensure the next people fishing our lakes do good as well. We appreciate that immensely, I know where the fish usually are but your best fishing report is from the people getting on the Otter when you get off. There are so many fish that people are not stingy with their spots like in some over populated lakes.

Until next time......

Norseman Days in Red Lake

Norseman Days is a Floatplane festival that is put on in Red Lake each July. The weather is usually very good and there is alot happening. Water bombers, acrobatic aircraft, and of course Norseman rides. This year Rena, my Girls and I got out for a few hours and had a good time. The fireworks show was also excellent. There is a video at the bottom from yesterday afternoon as the Norsemans did the fly by to end the weekend.

Also we are sending out our mid-summer newsletter soon. If you have been not been getting it and would like to receive it, just sign up on the right hand side of this page. Don't worry, we do not share your email or send you a bunch of crap you don't need. I send out 3-4 newsletters each year.

These guys come and visit us every other year and this year they were on the Cobham. Fishing was great but nothing really huge. There were a few stories flying around about some Monsters!! One boat caught 207 fish in one day! Matt stated that they were not going back until they reached the 200 mark. It is good to see everyone smiling and laughing, it definitely creates a good atmosphere.

Crank up the volume and Listen to the sound of these Radial Engines!! I always stop and watch when one flys by.

Lots of Sunburns......Some people were actually happy to see some Rain

3 camps changed over today and all fishermen/women were extremely happy!! We had a little rain yesterday but I did not have to fly so I was Happy to work in the office:) Today had a little bit of low cloud but the weather was plenty "flyable".

Jeanette Lake had some good friends return for their annual trip. The Buster party spent the last 7 days on Jeanette and Sesi. Each year they fish both lakes and this year the fishing was significantly better on Jeanette. Size was good, a 27 inch Walleye and a 36 inch Northern. Great weather and good times were had all around.

Findlay Lake had a 3 generation family of men fishing there. The Pfeiffer party had an awesome time. A few teenage boys, Dads, and Grandpa. They had an awesome time but were really sunburned and were happy to see some cloud near the end of the week. The boys were peeling like crazy but it did not matter.... the smiles were huge! Grandpa had the longest measurement of the week "A SIX FOOTER" with a reel attached! It was a funny story and it is hanging in the cabin on the deck. Todd caught a 37 inch Northern on the last cast of the trip, we work it out that way.LOL

Cherrington Lake. Fishing on the big lake in July is one of the best times that can be had. The Zech party came out today and they had a few people in their group who had never been to Canada before. Let me tell you, they were impressed! Aaron and Judy fished for 32 minutes in a bay that "I marked on the map" for them. They had 28 fish in those 32 minutes. Now that is some fishing. Every spot out on the big lake that I marked also produced, that makes me feel good. Their eyes were so excited when I picked them up. Here are just a few pictures and a link to Suzy's pictures, I think she was a "Real" rookie with not much fishing experience at all. I think she did rather well.

This was what I had to look at this morning

You should catch many different sizes of fish

Just like always, the youngest one catches the biggest Fish

Vee lake had some fishermen visit this week that made their return after 8 years. Chris S. was up many years ago and had the pressure put on him to be the guide. He had his 8 year old son Anthony along for the ride and I knew right way he would do well. He did very well in fact, his first fish was on his first cast. A 21 inch walleye!!! Not bad for his first fish in Canada Eh!! The fishing was very good overall for these guys, but Anthony had the Biggest Northern. A Huge 41 inch Northern on 8 lb test with a light walleye rod. With just a jig and a tail on. Most of the big fish seem to be caught at this time of year in amongst the walleyes. Big fish eat little fish, that's the way it works! Always be ready for the BIG one to rise up from the depths. He is just waiting for someone smaller to slip up.

Loree Lake had the Dubbledee family for 5 days this week. 3 generations getting together and had a great time. Katelyn, who is a senior in high school said that she had the best time fishing with her dad. Catching lots of fish and really enjoying their time together. I can identify with that, this time spent together is so important. Eric and his mom Diane fished together a fair amount as well. They had a funny story. Diane was bringing in a small 10 inch walleye, nothing abnormal about that but when Eric went o net it, he could see a much Larger walleye behind the small one on his mom's hook. The timing was perfect and in one swoop they had 2 walleyes in the boat. I don't here that kind of story very often. I hope to get some pictures from this trip as they said that that they have all 3 generations of women holding walleyes. Grandma was all smiles on the way out!!

Here are some pictures we have just recieved.

This is Bernice from the Peters Party that fished Loree a few weeks ago. A 42 inch Northern.

Look at the shear size of this Vee Lake monster. I am contemplating putting up no swimming signs at the camps if people keep on catching Trophies like this!

Cobham Sharks!!!!

Think you had a bad day?

As the subject states consider the poor Northern Pike that ate my jig and suffering the indignity of being hauled up from the deep is attacked by one his fellow Pike. When the fish hit I new it was a Northern and told my fishing buddy so. It did not seem really big at first and I was getting the upper hand when he suddenly seemed to get very large and very powerful. To our shock and amazement two fish rose from the depths. A big Pike had my fish in its jaws just behind the head like a terrier with a rat. I know this is a common occurrence but the size of the fish involved and the vicious damage inflicted is noteworthy. The Pike having a bad day is somewhere between 26" and 30" The big Pike is anybody guess as he let go and sunk back into the depths before we could get his picture. It does make you wonder "maybe we need a bigger boat" Well thanks for a great trip and more adventures.
Regards Elliott B.

Here are a few pictures from the rest of their trip. Starting with a Beauty. A 43 inch Northern!!!

An Awesome Walleye!!

Cherrington, Cobham, Blackbirch as good as ever!!!

It is nice to have Great Fishing... but I notice that people are much happier at the end of their trip if you have great fishing and great weather as well. It does not have to be a solid week of sun either. As long as the people in the bush have had a mixture of everything from cloud and sun with a little wind, they are generally alot happier than if they had 3 days in a row of rain... go figure:) The temperature this past while has been great. Not to hot but warm enough to fish in a t-shirt. Nice tans all around.

Blackbirch had an old acquaintance return for his annual trip. Wes P. has been fishing Blackbirch since Charlie Weyhauser built those cabins in the 1980`s. He always makes the portage over to Namiwan and did very well in there this year. Catching a 28 inch walleye and a 39 inch northern. Preston, Wes` grandson who is 7 years old, made his first trip to Canada and was sooo excited going in and out. When I picked him up I could see that he had a story to tell me! A Bear had come through the camp! He took me up to the cabin and walked me everywhere the bear had been. He showed me where the bear sniffed and licked the BBQ and Fishcooker and where he left. His eyes were huge! Definately nice to be a part of that experience.

Vince`s Italian Kitchen was open for business this past week at the Cobham River as well. The Rizzo Party made their way north and had some good times. Good weather and great fishing. My crew and I stopped there this week to do a little work and were invited in for lunch. It is nice to be able to spend some extra time with our guests and get a little extra work done on the camps. Largest fish for the week was a Huge 43 inch Northern(hope to get those pictures soon) and a 28 inch walleye. Elliot had a average 27 1/2 inch northern on the line when all of a sudden away he went. There was a battle taking place and finally Elliot won. But the real loser was the poor 27 1/2 inch northern. Rena saw the picture and she said that it was almost shredded. Elliot told me that the head of the attacking northern was Monstrous.

The Van Houweling party fished Cherrington recently and had perfect weather for fishing out on the Big Lake. Light winds up there and lots of big walleyes. The water temp out there was 5 degrees cooler than the water closer to the cabin. Meaning the walleyes were shallower and sometimes in 4 feet of water. Pretty much every walleye was over 20 inches. July is a great time out on the Big Lake of Cherrington.

Here are some pictures from a recent trip on Shearstone Lake Lonnie and his son shared with us. It was his sons first trip to Canada and he loved every minute of it. They had ever changing weather but the fishing was Perfect!

I just had to put this one up.. Most trips start here when they start shopping!

The Walleyes on Shearstone are so dark. The water is slightly more stained than some of our other lakes. The stained water in all of our lakes helps keep the walleyes biting all day long.
