New Pictures of some Dandy Northern!!

Here are just a few of the fish that were caught and released by our Comstock Party from the River camp recently. These pictures speak for themselves!!!

Norm!!!!

I went to a small get together for a very Seasoned Bush pilot last night and had a few. It was held at the Legion. There was a couple guys playing music and some food. Good times. Norm Wright has been flying for a Long time around Northwestern Ontario and around the world. I talked to him most everyday and would take a weather report from him any day. His back is in rough shape and sadly he has retired. Too many of those huge white coolers he says. If you are coming up fishing, please refrain from using those monsters!! 2 smaller ones are much better.




Norm was presented with a print of an Otter he flew for many hours and it was signed by all of the local Bush Rats

First Signs of Fall

We had some wind and rain the past couple of days and the temperature cooled off as well. As you can see from the picture above it was nice and clear this morning.Beautiful day for flying. About 30 miles south of the Cobham, I saw it.....the leaves are starting to change! Hard to believe that we are a month away from moose hunting and closing up. Time flies when people are having fun!

Here are some reports for the week.

Steve, Greg, and Dwight along with their lovely wives, came out of Jeanette yesterday and had a great time. Fishing was a little slower than normal but they still caught plenty of fish and had great weather. The Northern fishing on the last day was phenominal. I was a little late getting them out due to weather but nothing they haven't seen before as they have fished Jeanette for many years. The wives come up every other year and they Lucky guys generally get to visit Jeanette every year. The big fish for the week were:
Greg 40 inch Northern
Steve had a 39 inch Northern who came totally out of the water 4 times
Sandy had a 25 1/2 inch Walleye on the 2nd cast of the trip
Anne had a Northern come right out of the water after her lure as she was messing with the line.

The Nelson party came out of Findlay recently where fishing was normal. Normal being great you know. The biggest fish of the trip was a 25 inch walleye. They said there were tons of walleyes and a good amount of bigger northerns.

Vee had some new guests fishing there and they came out yesterday as well. The Hamre Party. They reported catching fish all over and a 42 inch Northern was caught and released in the process. If I remember right, they also had a 26 and 2-25 inch walleyes. The gazebo and screened decks have been seeing a lot of use in the nice weather recently and this week was no different, no bugs and a nice view while eating dinner or having an evening cocktail.

The Western Family was in at Daniels for 7 days and came out this morning. The temperature went from 88 degrees to 34 degrees this morning when I picked them up this morning. I figured that the temp was close to freezing when I stepped on the dock. They had their biggest walleye right around the corner from the cabin where the fishing was very consistant. Nice to have a spot close to catch supper when the weather sucks. Biggest fish were:
Matt 25.5 inch walleye
Beth 24 inch walleye
Jennie 23 inch walleye
Beth had a funny story on the way in. She said the last time they were up, they fished Findlay Lake and she was catching so many fish that at one point she was releasing a fish and got mixed up and released her rod instead of the walleye. Gone. When I told here that there was a rod caught recently there she laughed like crazy. It is up on the wall on the deck as a trophy now.

A 40 inch Northern on one hook and a Finger on the other!

The Scholtes and Hogan Party came out of The River today and had a blast. There was 2 Dan's in the group and they caught the biggest Northern. Dan S. caught a 38 inch Northern and Dan D. caught a Hefty 40 incher!! The only problem was that he also got hooked in the process! This was the second day of their trip and they figured they would take care of it themselves....and did! Apperently Dan D. did not care for his friends bedside manor but they pushed the hook through, cut it off and pulled it out. Nothing different than they would do at the hospital. The important part was that they did not wreck his Antique Wooden Pikey. Here he is, co-piloting his way back to Red Lake.

The Big Lake on Cherrington!!!

We are still busy with fishermen and with the nice weather time seems to be flying by. All things around the camps are running smoothly and fishing is nothing short of Fantastic!

Cherrington had some Old Northern Minnesota hockey players fishing there this week, the Hoene Brothers and "Cons" as well as a couple new guys. I have known these guys for a long time and they have fished many of our lakes over the years and this year Kevin summed it up in one sentence "When it takes 5 minutes to catch a fish, that's pretty boring." He said that it was by far the best fishing he has ever seen. The fishing out on the Big Lake couldn't have been any better. When the fish are on the bite out there, it is a lot of fun! They also caught a 43 inch Northern that had a walleye already in its mouth.

Daniels saw Mike S. for the second time in three weeks! They had awesome weather and caught tons of fish. Mike, who organizes the group, has spent countless hours fishing the Cobham had the fish of the trip, a Big 27 inch Walleye!

Vee Lake had 2 couples from Missouri fishing in the sun for the past week. The Girls out fished the Boys, I would not have expected anything less from these easy going people. Kevin did have the Largest Northren though, a nice 38 incher. They were very impressed with the walleye fishing on all corners of the lake.

The Weather is still Great and the Fishing is Too!!

The Jones Party came out of Blackbirch this morning from their first trip with us. They had a Blast. The weather was perfect and the fishing was Great. One morning 3 of them caught and released 107 fish in 3 hours, Jenni was fishing off the dock and caught 12 fish, these are just a few of the stories we heard this morning. They also saw a bear swimming across the lake and eagles who befriended them and followed them around all day, waiting for an easy meal.

Here are a few highlights from the past week,

Findlay had the Longshore Party from Ohio. These guys have fished here many times and Findlay did not disappoint once again. A Pair of 27's and also a Pair of 26's in the Walleye category. It was fairly hot for their liking but it cooled off at night. They also saw a bear crossing the river coming out of Russell lake.

Morleys on the Cobham had the Cook Party fishing this past week. They had a number of 40+ inch northerns up to the boat but...those ones got away. Seeing them up near the boat and how big they are is almost as good as actually having the pleasure of holding one of those monsters for a picture! They did catch 3-35 inch northerns and tons of walleyes. One 35 inch northern was caught on an ultralight. The mid-sized fish are generally the hardest fighters and catching a healthy northern on light tackle with no leader is a lot of fun!

Cobham River had our Hardcore Northern Fishermen from Parts Unknown! These guys love to eat walleyes but only fish them long enough to catch supper, then its back to the hunt for the Big Ones!!! This year they did great once again. The Largest fish of the week were 42.5, 42, and 2-40 inch Trophy Northern and had 41 measuring greater than 30 inches. Scott told me if you looked at each years pictures, you can see the fish pictured are larger each trip they make. They are getting more experience on the waters they are fishing and our conservation policy is paying big dividends. Here are last years pics from them and I will put this seasons up when I get them.

Bob H. and some friends came out of Cherrington yesterday, one of his friends was from Berlin, Germany and had never fished walleyes before. They said that the walleye fishing was totally crazy!! Bob H. said that their walleyes averaged between 20 and 24 inches. One of the many times they had a double header on, it turned out to be two Beauties, a 25 incher on one side of the boat, and a Big 27 incher on the other side. He said they make a trip every other year and he definatly wants to go back to Cherrington!!
