I actually went fishing!!!

Even I get to go and fish once in awhile. Last week my Girls and I had the opportunity to go fishing for the day on Cherrington. We had a Great day! Fishing was quite good, we caught 35-40 fish in a couple hours and were back in Red Lake by 4 in the afternoon. We planned to have shorelunch but it rained on us. I tried to wait it out and we kept the fire going for an hour in the rain before giving up the ghost and went and ate in the cabin. We were just ready to cook when it started to rain, fish was cleaned and potatoes were cut. Luckily we did not have the oil on the fire yet. Those Walleyes tasted almost as good in the cabin, but I had a great day with the girls.

Do you think you can land a 39 inch Northern....Fishing out of a CANOE!

This past week has been really busy with flying and a lot has happened. I will get a complete fishing report up soon. Here are a couple of stories from recently.

The Hren party had their first Flyin Experience, and came to Shearstone in response to our Family Package. I was pretty concerned about their trip. They were in there for 4 days and it rained for the past 3!! The group before them had good fishing and had marked them some spots on the map when we changed over. I was hoping that they would see some excellent fishing. The day I dropped them off it was nice and sunny. It also turned out to be their least productive day of the trip. During the next 3 days of mist and rain they caught tons of walleyes and northerns. On one of the canoe portages Joe caught and landed a Fat 39 inch Northern. It was very wild they said but actually landed him. They must have good balance.

The biggest difference I saw in this trip though was the Boys. I have written before of the change I see in people on their way out from a fishing trip and this was one of the significant ones. On the way in I saw 2 teenage boys who were tired from the drive up and looked a little detached. When I showed up today, in the Rain, They met me on the dock with huge smiles. Telling me stories of the fish they caught. The look in their eyes was the difference. Hard to explain what it is, but definitely a happier look. I notice that right away and more pronouced sometimes than others. I hope to see them again.

Also BIG news!! The Springpole Ale has arrived. I have tried a couple and they are fantastic! These guys had awesome fishing last year and are heading in tomorrow for their second time at Springpole Lake. Last year I thought it was weird to have someone ask to take some water home. The water in Springpole is nice and clear and tastes great. Well I can attest to that. A & T Brewing did a first rate job. I would consider myself a connoisseur on beer tasting:) I think I will have to find some room on the Otter on their way out for some "Water".






Here are some pictures from the Absher Party who stayed at Daniels for the past six days. They were only scheduled for 5 though. The weather was very Ugly this weekend but the fishing was Great! We always have safety in mind and if the Mother Nature does not allow us to fly.... we have to wait. These decisions are hard to make but they have to be made. Most of our guests understand. these guys were great, as were all of our fishermen this weekend. They caught a number of Big Northerns but Ron had a Monster come and take his walleye right by the boat and swim away with it, not stopping and breaking the line. He has fished Canada for a long time and that was the biggest fish had ever seen.

Mayflies are starting, Walleyes are on a Feeding Frenzy!!!

Walleye fishing at Amik Outposts is as good as it gets right now. Today is kind of rainy but I bet fishing is Great today. I don't have to fly today so things could not be better:) I have to go north tomorrow and have no one coming south so I am hoping to take my girls fishing at Cherrington. I hope the weather holds out for us.

Only some of the lakes I have been to in the past week have any noticeable amount of mayflies. The Cobham seems to have the greatest amount but fishing has been totally Awesome there. I was also at Findlay and Loree and hardly noticed any mayflies at all. The Findlay guys said that the bellies had some mayflies in them but fishing was very good.

Here are some of the reports from the past few days.

Shearstone had the Primm Party, the first day they got there the fishing below the rapids was fast and furious. Then the next day, nothing was there. By that afternoon they found another honey hole not far from the Cabin. The next day the fish seemed to be all over the lake. They had 2-26 inch walleyes and a number of mid 30 inch Northerns

Nehrbass Party stayed for 8 days at Morleys this past week. They caught so many fish they did not know where to start the story! Some of the highlights are: below the rapids they had 10 Walleyes over 21 inches in one spot! among hundreds of others.... They also had a HUGE Northern take their bait and break the water and went down and did not stop. 20 pound test, broken right at the reel.

The Seitz boys were at Daniels. Dad and 2 sons and a friend who had never ever been in an airplane before. How lucky could you be to have your first time with Johnny and the Polish Otter!! The weather was perfect and smooth. A 5 am flight, a beautiful sunrise. My job is fairly easy on days like those. They had 2 Northern which measured 38 inches and a 25 inch Walleye. They also caught a small Northern which was then eaten by a Larger Northern!

Cobham River had the Mcgee Party. Their story is on the previous post. I will post some of their pictures when I recieve them. Here is one of them with their shorelunch and supper. They all look like they are 18 inches or less to me:)

A Very Nice Story.

Another weekend has passed and many more happy fishermen have gone south with big smiles on their faces. I will get some of the stories up here soon.

Here is a story from a recent group of guests who had the trip of a lifetime as written by him.


Ron M. and Craig A. both boated 27" walleyes that were awesome
creatures! Not only was it our first 27's up here - but we boated 2 in one
week! The walleye numbers were nothing short of incredible, easily in the
50-100 fish per day per person! It was Ron's neighbor's (Bob) first
Canadian fly-in fishing trip - I think it's safe to say he was amazed at the
quality of your operation and the quality of the fishing.



Jeff and I also got to see a wolverine swim across the narrows and walk up
the opposite shore! You don't see that everywhere you go!



The 41" celebration story - as we were heading down to the border after our
trip, I was contemplating hiring an artist to paint a large northern being
caught by someone resembling my brother, with the yellow Otter in the
picture, and the Red Eye Wiggler lure hanging out of it's mouth (we all made
fun of Jeff fishing with that Red Eye Wiggler, but he slayed both walleyes
and northerns with it!). I had a picture in my mind of what I wanted this
painting to look like. We stopped at Border Bob's to browse.I walked up the
stairs to wander the art area.when I got to the top of the stairs I looked
to the right on the wall at eye level.what do I see? A framed print of a
blonde man catching a very large northern.with a yellow float plane in the
background and.yes, a Red Eye Wiggler hanging from its mouth. I was
speechless. We quickly purchased the print and snuck it into Ron's truck
without Jeff seeing it. That night at dinner in Virginia/Eveleth, we told
Jeff the story of my vision and presented him with the print to remember his
41" pike. We all signed the back of the print. Jeff said the print gave
him chills it was such an accurate reflection of the week's experience. A
great way to cap an awesome week.



As Ron and I discussed this little coincidence, we both agreed that a print
with a blonde man catching a large northern pike with a yellow float plane
in the background probably wasn't unexpected at Border Bob's, however,
placing a Red Eye Wiggler in its mouth was just too much! It was perfect
and apparently meant to be.

Loree Lake, Peters Party, Best Year Yet!!

This is the Peters party and their friends. They have brought many different people up to Loree Lake over the years, from family to close friends. They have been fishing with Amik for at least 12 years and this was their best yet. Numbers wise anyways, every trip to the North is a special one. Last years Fishing Report


Bernice and Ed have been making the trip up with the Peters for a few years now and are totally hooked! Bernice has a tear in her eye when she arrives and a tear when she leaves. She caught the fish of the trip on her first day in camp this year. A Nice 42 inch Northern! Her husband Ed also had the biggest Walleye of the trip, a Fat 27 and 1/4 incher. If you look at their totals they are pretty impressive. They brought a couple of Rookies this year Dale and Mary. Their totals steadily increased each day and on the last day they caught 100 fish in their boat. Once you get the hang of feeling those walleyes out, it is quite easy.

Weather is Beautiful, Water levels going down.

The weather has been really good lately. Nice mornings and warm days. A few pop up thunderstorms once in awhile but nothing too serious. Summer must be officially here. Water is slowly going down on the Cobham, Cherrington, and Blackbirch. Some lakes report that the Walleyes are starting to move out from the rapids and moving water but most days the best fishing is still near the rapids.

Cherrington had the Dodge boys come out yesterday. Nathan, who is 7 years old had a 25 inch Monster Walleye. I hope to see some pictures from that trip soon. There was 4 younger guys on this trip and they caught lots of fish. They were all Really happy on the way out.

Blackbirch fishing was outstanding this week with some new guys from Toronto fishing there. It takes longer for these guys to get from one side of the province of Ontario to the other than it does for someone who comes from Illinois or Iowa. This was their first Outpost experience and they totally loved it! They will be back.

We have a busy weekend coming and will have more fishing reports. Hopefully there will be some good stories to tell...

Cherrington had a crew of strong young guys and a few distinguished gentlemen. They had their best fishing in the "honey hole" where Dads lake flows in. The best Walleye fishing still today is right near the rapids. I keep telling every group that heads in to the bush that those Walleyes are going to start moving out but they sure like those rapids.
